A School That Stays With You

KL Kuttāb was built by parents, for parents. What began as a search for sound Islamic education grew into something larger — a community of families who share values, celebrate together, support one another, and form friendships that extend far beyond Saturday mornings.

Our families come from across Kuala Lumpur and beyond — local Malaysian families who want their children rooted in the classical tradition, and international families who have made KL their home and are looking for a Muslim community to grow with. What they share is more important than where they came from.

Children who study here don't just gain knowledge. They gain a circle. Parents who enrol here don't just find a school. They find their people.

Roots & Routes

Some of our families have been in TTDI for generations. Others arrived in Kuala Lumpur from Singapore, the Gulf, the United Kingdom, or the United States — looking for a place where their children could grow up knowing who they are as Muslims, in English, taught by scholars.

We are not a school for one type of family. We are a school for families who believe that Islamic education is not supplementary — it is essential. Wherever you came from, if that is what you believe, you belong here.

What Families Ask Us

Do you teach in English?+

Yes. All core instruction at KL Kuttāb is delivered in English. Arabic is taught as a subject, and Quranic recitation is in Arabic, but the medium of instruction — how teachers explain, discuss, and engage with students — is English throughout. This makes KL Kuttāb accessible to Malaysian families educated in English-medium schools, as well as international families relocating to Kuala Lumpur.

Is KL Kuttāb suitable for expat families who have recently moved to Malaysia?+

Very much so. A significant number of our families are international — from the UK, Australia, the United States, Singapore, and the wider ASEAN region. Because we teach in English and meet on weekends, we work alongside any school timetable. Many expat families find KL Kuttāb both the most accessible and the most substantive Islamic education available in Kuala Lumpur.

What makes KL Kuttāb different from other Islamic schools in Malaysia?+

Three things set us apart. First, we are a weekend school — which means your child can attend a regular school during the week and still receive a full, structured Islamic education. Second, our curriculum is genuinely classical: we teach aqidah, fiqh, seerah, and Arabic — not just Quran recitation — using the same scholarly tradition that has transmitted Islamic knowledge for over a thousand years. Third, our teachers hold verified Islamic scholarly credentials, including a graduate of the University of Qarawiyyin in Fez, one of the oldest universities in the world.

My child has never had Islamic education before. Can they still join?+

Yes. We assess every student at the point of entry and place them in the cohort that suits their current level. Many of our students begin with little or no prior Islamic education — some can barely read Arabic script. Our Iqra programme is specifically designed for beginners, and our Islamic Studies curriculum does not assume prior knowledge. What matters is that your child is ready to learn, not what they already know.

How is KL Kuttāb different from a madrasah or tahfiz school?+

A traditional madrasah or tahfiz school typically operates daily and focuses primarily on Quran memorisation. KL Kuttāb meets on weekends and teaches a broader classical curriculum: Quran, fiqh, aqidah, Arabic, and seerah — alongside a rich co-curricular programme that includes archery, wrestling, calligraphy, and drumming. We aim to form the whole child — scholar, athlete, artist, and person of character — not only a memoriser of text.

Is KL Kuttāb only for Muslims of a particular background or nationality?+

No. KL Kuttāb is open to Muslim families of all backgrounds, nationalities, and ethnic identities. Our student body includes Malaysian Chinese Muslim families, Malay families, South Asian families, Arab families, and Western families. We teach across the three major Sunni schools of jurisprudence (Maliki, Shafi'i, and Hanafi) and follow the Ashari tradition in theology. The only requirement is that your child is Muslim and between the ages of 6.5 and 13.
