About KL Kuttāb

Why We Exist

KL Kuttāb was founded on a simple conviction: that every Muslim child deserves access to sound Islamic education — not surface-level or fragmentary, but grounded in the classical tradition, taught by qualified scholars.

We teach the obligatory knowledge that every Muslim must know: the fundamentals of belief, the proper recitation of Quran, the rulings of worship, and the Arabic language that unlocks the sacred texts.

Our mission is to be a sanctuary of learning for the Muslims of Kuala Lumpur — a place where children fall in love with their faith and develop the knowledge and character to carry it forward.

What We Aspire To

We envision a generation of young Muslims in Malaysia who are firmly rooted in their tradition — who can recite Quran with beauty and precision, who understand the principles of their faith across the classical schools of law, and who can engage with the Arabic of the Quran and hadith directly.

Beyond knowledge, we aim to cultivate character — students who are humble, disciplined, and connected to the long chain of scholars and saints who came before them.

How KL Kuttāb Began

KL Kuttāb was established as an independent, not-for-profit Islamic weekend school in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), Kuala Lumpur. It was founded by a small group of parents and educators who saw a gap between what was available and what was truly needed — a school that combined scholarly depth with genuine care for children.

The school serves children aged 6.5 to 13, meeting on weekends so families can provide Islamic education alongside their children's regular schooling. The curriculum is built around three pillars: Quranic studies, Islamic sciences, and Arabic language — complemented by a rich co-curricular programme that draws on traditional Islamic arts and disciplines.

Today, KL Kuttāb runs three terms per year, maintains class sizes of no more than 10–12 students, and is supported by a team of scholars and educators with training from institutions including the University of Qarawiyyin in Fez, UNSW, and the Higher Institute of Social Work in Cairo.

Our Core Values

Classical Scholarship

We draw from the unbroken chain of Islamic learning — transmitted scholar to student across centuries — ensuring that what we teach is authentic, sound, and connected to its living roots.

Holistic Education

We believe education extends beyond the classroom. Our co-curricular programme of archery, wrestling, drumming, and calligraphy shapes the whole child — body, spirit, and character.

Small Classes

With a maximum of 10–12 students per teacher, every child receives the attention they need to progress at their own pace and develop a genuine love of learning.

Community

KL Kuttāb is more than a school — it is a community of families committed to raising children who know their faith, their history, and their responsibility to the ummah.

Located in TTDI, Kuala Lumpur

KL Kuttāb meets on weekends in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), one of Kuala Lumpur's most established residential neighbourhoods, easily accessible from Bangsar, Damansara, Petaling Jaya, and Mont' Kiara.

Core classes are held at Mukha Ba, our partner learning space in TTDI. Co-curricular activities including Turkish archery take place at the TTDI Skate Park.
